The job seeker visa for Germany is a Long-Term Residency Permit, which allows you to stay in the country for six (6) months and look for a job. Job seeker visa does not allow you to start working immediately in Germany. It only means that you can visit the country and look for a job during your stay. But, getting a job within this six month period might be difficult. So, start posting in job portal before submitting the application and check for the opportunity in your field.

Who can apply for Job seekers visa?
There are several criteria that you need to fulfill to be eligible to apply for the Germany job seeker visa. These are as follows:
Hold a Bachelor of Master’s Degree from a German university or an equivalent foreign degree
Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in your related field of study
Show proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay during the time you are in Germany
Have travel or medical insurance for your entire stay in Germany or until you get your Work Permit
If you checked all of the criteria, then you’re one step closer to getting your visa.
Before submitting application:
Before applying for a job-seeker visa prepare the following documents:
Valid passport (issued within the last 10 years and with at least 12 months validity left after the scheduled return)
1 copy of your passport’s data page (A4 size copy)
3 passport pictures according to biometric specifications.
Cover letter from the applicant explaining the exact purpose, course of action to find employment and the duration of stay in Germany as well as further career plans. Guidelines for writing Cover letter
Proof of academic qualification (from a German university or equivalent to a German academic degree) and relevant previous work experience certificates for future employment in Germany
Personal CV containing full education and employment history. Guidelines for CV
Proof of financial means to cover the costs for the time of your stay by one of the following documents: 1. “Verpflichtungserklärung” (formal obligation letter) by sponsor living in Germany If you prefer to stay with your friend or relatives and they are going to sponsor for your stay in Germany then request them to get and give you a formal obligation letter from local ausländerbehörde(Foreigners office) in Germany. This was my experience in getting Verpflichtungserklärung for German Family visit visa:I have specified my sponsor as my Husband. So he got and gave me a formal obligation letter from local ausländerbehörde(Foreigners office) in Germany. Initially he went to ausländerbehörde(Foreigners office) there they said he need to create blocked account . So he created an blocked account with 1,382 Euros in the bank where he is already holding an account and then he showed the proof of blocked account in ausländerbehörde(Foreigners office). After which they asked all his details and my details to specify in Verpflichtungserklärung (formal obligation letter) and handed over the original formal obligation letter to my husband. My husband was asked to create a blocked account because he was studying in Germany. If your sponsor is working in Germany to prove they are financially sound to sponsor you they need to show their last three months Salary slip and last 6 months bank statements they don need to create a blocked account. In some German consulate in India they might ask you to submit ORIGINAL Verpflichtungserklärung (formal obligation letter). Please confirm with the consulate before submitting your application. If you submit Verpflichtungserklärung (formal obligation letter) then getting a visa is easier. Because,Verpflichtungserklärung (formal obligation letter) is an official document issued by an Aliens Department (“Ausländerbehörde”) in Germany, stating that the host in Germany will cover all costs incurred by your visit. Alien Departments are the German public authority responsible for foreigners.
Sample Verpflichtungserklärung (formal obligation letter)
2. Bank account etc. Self-sponsor should submit their bank statement of last 6 months. Only funds in Savings account are accepted. FDs, Mutual Funds etc are not accepted.
Proof of accomodation in Germany (if staying with a friend or relative, a formal obligation letter (“Verpflichtungserklärung”) would be appreciated. If you’re planning to stay along with your friend/relatives you can submit the house contract were you’re friend /relatives staying at present. But make sure you have minimum living space (minimum of 12m² per person). Self-sponsor should book hotel/room/apartment. During interview you need to submit booking confirmation.
Proof of personal status in India and marriage certificate, birth certificates of Children, ration card, Aadhaar card if applicable
Proof of health insurance You need to buy health insurance from acceptable provider. The health insurance should cover the period of 6 months. You can find a list of acceptable insurance providers here.
All documents need to be presented in original plus TWO copies (A4 size).
Apart from the required documents mentioned above, additionally you can submit German language proficiency certificates. This is an added advantage for your application.
After submitting application:
Sometimes consulate might inform you that verification of your Indian origin documents is required. The verification process will ONLY be initiated on behalf of a German authority (not by a private person).
Visa processing time may be 3 months or more. You can’t track German long term visa application. You have to wait until you get an update from German consulate.
